Trip report from 16th September 2017

CHRIS COBBING Did a trip to Zig Zag rd, Takone, Dip falls area

We had 8 vehicles at the start of the day. Headed out to Zig Zag rd area. Should have turned left but went right at one of the turn offs so we ended up taking the long way for a short cut… but got there eventually. Along the way we dropped in at the Takone area. Found a very very slippery track. Scott had a good crack at it but simply couldn’t get up there. Chris C went around him and gave him a helping hand. Christopher was next in the patrol. He made it most of the way up but needed that little bit of help at the top. This meant that Chris C finally got to christen his new winch.

In between we had rain, hail, wind and even SNOW! This made filming quite chilly! Chris B had a real good crack at trying to get up the track but after about 8 attempts he gave up and accepted defeat!

We headed to Dip falls through the Rabalga track. Found ourselves some slippery muddy tracks. After trying to negotiate different ways back to the main road we all ended up getting back on track and went to Dip falls to admire the wonder of nature gushing over the falls!  Another great day had.

GNOMIE NOMINATIONS:

Chris C – Finally getting to christen the new winch

Chris B – not giving up on the slippery hill without a fight!

Scott – Giving his car load of passengers good value for money

Christopher – using a barbed wire fence to help stop the big pooie from sliding.

GNOMIE AWARD – LEE!! Having a ‘toilet stop’ in between cars… then being told about the go pro mounted on the dashboard! (oopsy)

June long weekend 10th 11th 12th  Happy birthday Queen

We stayed at the Cuprona scouts. After meeting on Saturday morning Justin and Mick led the trip for the day. We headed to the Dial range area. After a little bit of driving we found a track that didn’t seem too bad at all. But that soon changed when we got to a small water crossing… and the other side had a pretty good challenge on the other side of it. Justin had a really good crack at driving through it. No luck just driving… can’t go forward’ can’t go back! Out with the winch to get out of the pickle. Mick made it look easy in the patrol. Up and over… bit more right foot helped and I think Justin may have helped clear the track a bit. Christopher and Aidan followed through but Chris, Fedor and Annette chose to turn around and meet at the other end of the track to avoid vehicle damage.

The track that they had continued on with turned out to be quite a challenge. The other one we took was also a good track with a couple of up hill humps and bumps. We could hear the others on the radio… “Yep that’s a winch job” we heard this many times. We waited at the end of the track that they were to come out of. Teigan and Isabella had walked out from where the others had been stuck for quite a bit.

Once we had all re grouped we headed out the rest of the track and back to the hut for the night.

Sunday morning we headed off to the back of Wynyard area. We got up a slippery clay hill a lot easier than we first thought. Up and around the other tracks with a bit of slip and sliding. We got to one of the well known bog holes and it did not disappoint. Christopher got himself all crossed up in some ruts and needed a little assistance from Fedor to get himself pointing the right direction.

We went up to Deep creek road area to have a look around there. WOW! The amount of rubbish lying around this area was disgusting! Piles of general rubbish strewn across a lot of the area was horrible to see.

After doing a few of the tracks around here we headed back to the hut for the night.

Monday we got up, packed up and went home.

Gnomie award for the weekend: Justin… removing the flare that he wanted to replace… but removing it BUSH STYLE!

Montezuma Falls & Ring River 27-5-2017

Trip leader: Chris C & Susie  6 Vehicles in total.

We met at the Rosebery toilets. Headed off to the falls about 9:45. Headed into the falls along the track. The track is in great condition. Bumpy but solid. Most of the trip in was pretty un eventful… until Jason punctured the sidewall of his tyre just before the ring river track intersection. We met a few other vehicles as they were  heading out from Montezuma falls. We got to the falls about 12:30 and had some lunch after admiring the beautiful (as always) waterfall.

Once we had turned onto the Ring River track there were a few step downs. The infamous big bog hole that we had remembered from many years ago now has an alternate track to pass it. The track is in good condition with a few step ups and step downs. We got to the river with no real issues at all. The river itself wasn’t as deep as it had been on past trips, so we all got across easily.

We were out to the Hwy by about 3pm. Here we all headed back toward Rosebery then home.

Gnomie award goes to:  Chris B… speedy Gonzales…. And got t third party warning after Jason got an official warning!

Clean up the bush 2016

ZEEHAN NOV 5-6-7 2016

Very wet weekend. Checked out the Gemfest and fireworks. Had a great trip into the pieman heads. Karaoke was a hit.

Strahan.  March 2017

Such a beautiful place to be! After going and finding some firewood we just chilled out around camp and the campfire for the night. Sunday we got up to rain so had some breakfast and headed off for a drive. Finding some very twisty tracks, we were all over the place. We also headed out to henty dunes for a look. After leaving Henty dunes we found a few other little lakes along the road on the way back into Strahan.

We went for a play up on the dunes and Fedor found the fastest way down was to run then roll! We went into Strahan and ran into Pete and Anne, Had some lunch before heading back out toward camp. Found another track on the Hema explorer app that we didn’t know was there!

Packed up Monday and headed home.

Clean up the bush report.  8 October 2016

8 Vehicles in attendance for the day Chris and I along with Christopher, Brian and Carter stopped to collect  general rubbish from the side of the road near the Guide falls entrance. We collected two very full trailers and a ute load from here! Included were car parts, a lot of general rubbish, dryers and even an old household air conditioning unit. Nothing with names/addresses on it.

COMBINED 4X4 CLUB DAY 16/4/2016

Chris and I arrived at NW OFFROAD in Spreyton. Pete had kindly agreed to let us use the track for the day at no charge. They were great! The track was all ready to go, pressure cleaner was at the ready ANNNND they were organised for a bbq lunch! Thanks again to Pete and the crew there for so much help.

We slowly had others join us. Chris and Fedor headed out for a play on the track. Chris couldn’t help himself and went for the big puddle… and got stuck! Christopher to the rescue! Lovely muddy water inside the lux. Christopher also had a go at it… but he too got stuck!

20-5-2016           To the GREAT LAKES           Trip leader/ Report: Annette

Attended: Connors family, Vossy +2, Mick Nett Mooch & Dylan, Ian & Angela, Danny + 1, Craig Lee & Lanika.

Met at Deloraine at 9:30. We headed off to the Great Lakes the weather was beautiful and sunny with no wind and a bit of snow on the side of the road at the lakes was beautiful. Silly me though, I saw snow at the first turn off still at the bottom of the hill…. But NO it was just fluff.

First stop was at (the coldest place in Tassie)… Liaweenee. The trout fishing show was on. We seen lots of fish in the tanks, fish being milked, fish getting caught by kids and 12 different stalls to look at. Plenty of food and even a helicopter ride if you had a spare $50.

Second stop: The Great Lake Pub.    Here we had some lunch and were lucky enough to get the big table out the back.,.,.. so we had lunch in the Christmas room.

Third stop: Lake Augusta. We finally made it to the lake after following a BMW all the way (so damn slow). The lake was very full. We missed out on doing the track along the side of the canal as it had a locked gate on it.

We headed home at about 4 pm. We all had a nice relaxing day driving and doing some sight-seeing with great friends.

GNOMIE AWARD: To myself (Annette)… there was snow… but no it was only fluff.

NORTH EAST WEEKEND

Well 4 of us meet at Elizabethtown roadhouse then proceed to Branxholm to meet the last of the group. After a chat we headed to Ruby flats track.  It wasn’t much and got through it quickly. At the end of it the next track was Dead horse hill. Getting a little lost and with some back tracking we found our way till the road stopped in a gravel heap , the I realized that I was at a track I had done 6 odd years ago in the dark

November 1st Shakespears hills.

Trip leader Mick Richards. Report by Mick Richards.

Well we set out on a not too bad of a day to tackle Shakespears. After meeting at the round about: 1 Nissan, 1 Pajero & 4 hilux’s  we headed for the hill. After getting into the track we found the first steep part. I was first having a bit of trouble with both diffs locked in and cursing the shitty cooper tires (don’t forget that bit, important at the end). The rest of the group didn’t seem to have much trouble at all with it.

On to the next challenge… Shakespears! Once again both diffs in and having trouble… still blaming the shitty cooper tires ( remember, don’t forget that bit, important at the end). Finally I go t to the top. Fedor in the pajero, Vossy in the patrol & Jason in the hilux had no trouble. Then came Angus, he had a tad bit of trouble. After many attempts and not getting any further he was winched up the rest of the way.   Then came Chris. After getting to where Angus had been stuck and having a go at it we heard a ‘BANG’! Oops… 1  hilux down… broken front diff!

We were half way up shakespears when we decided we would turn around. Shakespears hills won the battle that day!

Dazzlers Range 2015

The day started out with a frosty morning and clear blue skies, perfect weather for a 4x4 trip. After some chitchat and airing down we (5 vehicles in all) turned into a rutted, wet and muddy public access track. It wasn’t too hard, but for those with smaller than 32’s there was some bottoming out if you didn’t pick the right line. We made it down to the Franklin Rivulet on a loop track where there was a short but rough hill climb leading out. Those with a more capable vehicle crawled up easily but for others a lead foot was required. As our diff locker was out of action we headed back out the loop the same way we came in. We then headed off to make our way over to the Dazzler Fire Trail, trying to avoid the gravel roads where we could. First it was over Roaring Magg Hill, taking a rocky track lined with a few washouts. Next it was over to Branches Creek via Dalgarth 7, an easy but slow hill climb and the gravel pits on the Bradford track, taking the more challenging way around them. A few stops were made along the way to have a look at some steep & nasty hills which would have been difficult for those even with twin lockers. After crossing the concrete pipe over Branches Creek we were soon met with another hill climb with a greasy slip and slide at the bottom. Once this was negotiated we set up for lunch at the top with some nice views across the Range.

Magnet Mine

19th July 2014

We all met at the Ridgley Roadhouse at 8:30 and quickly filled up the parking lot with a total of 14 vehicles for the day. At 9:00 we made our way to Waratah to start the Magnet Mine Track. It was very over grown with many of us ending up with some bush pin stripes and the track ended up with its own creek flowing down it after all the rain they had the week before. After crossing the river the track became very narrow with low hanging branches just missing some vehicles as they passed by.Half way along the steep climb out of Magnet Daniel’s hilux started to screech and smoke was pouring out from under the bonnet.

Long Weekend-Camp trip

7th-9th June 2014

Mick was the original trip leader, but his Nissan wasn’t happy So Mick asked Chris and I if we could lead the trip while he hopefully got the Nissan back on the road.

We met up with Fedor, Craig, Ian and Angela at the moorleah hall Saturday morning. After sorting out the hall we headed up to have a play in one of our favourite tracks at preolenna.  This time though we took a left turn to see where it went. We were on what we think was a motor cross track. Bit over grown but not too bad. We came to a very steep hill. Chris had a go at it, not wanting to rev the new motor too hard though so didn’t hit it as hard as he would have in previous years! About ¾ the way up and that was as far as it was going to get! So out came the winch. Fedor was next, he also got a fair way up but ran out of puff.

Black Bluff

23rd August 2014

We left Mc Donald’s with 16 cars and a random after hitting the track we found the SES there so we knew we were safe. with so many cars we were sort of split up so I missed some of what happened behind. We dropped our tire pressure and headed up the mountain. listening to the UHF some people were getting up with ease where others struggled. At the front first to come unstuck was Fedor with his new 3inch lift kit and a bit of a lean made him feel like he was going over. after a bit of wiggling and rocking he was okay.
